Alexis C. Garcia

Alexis C. Garcia

is a Puerto Rican living in the Diaspora born in the Bronx, NY, she spent her adolescence in Miami, FL, and most summers in Puerto Rico. This geography’s important because it would shape her lens as a writer / director. The granddaughter of a spiritist healer who owned a botánica (spiritual pharmacy) for many years, Alexis co-founded Botánica Pictures in 2022 with her cousin Selina, to continue their grandmother’s legacy and explore the power of storytelling & healing. They are currently in development on their first feature La Casa De Luz, with production anticipated for 2024.

Previously, Alexis worked for Univision’s first fully bilingual digital platform, Flama, and most recently BuzzFeed’s Pero Like, where she honed an expertise in Latine identity content & storytelling. Originally the strategist behind the brand, she shared NALIP’s Digital Trailblazer Award with the Pero Like team in 2019, created and served as showrunner of the Webby Award-winning series, Mi Quinceañera Come True (2020), and directed countless episodes of short form originals.

In 2022, Alexis was selected to participate in LALIFF’s Inclusion Fellowship sponsored by Netflix, where she wrote and directed the Oscar qualified short Daughter of the Sea, starring Princess Nokia. To date, the film has been an official selection in over 50 festivals, and won 22 awards.

This past year she has worked as a Story Producer on MTV Networks’ upcoming docu-series, De La Calle, scheduled for release on Paramount+ in the fall of 2023, been staffed as a writer on an animated series currently in development at Disney+, and continues to direct across mediums.
